SSE Events - COP27
We are looking forward to convening in Sharm El-Sheikh for COP27 as world leaders, businesses and civil society come together to accelerate progress that will keep a 1.5 degree global warming pathway within reach, as well as protecting those most vulnerable to climate change.
SSE is hosting a range of events during the two weeks of COP27, with the aim of facilitating knowledge sharing and thought leadership that will help advance the clean energy transition globally.

UK Pavilion, Blue Zone, Zone B
An international panel of senior speakers will give their perspectives on the global transition to a clean energy system. The panel will discuss learnings from around the world, including how to deliver green energy infrastructure. Panellists will also address shared challenges in the effort to decarbonise energy, including the need for an equitable and just transition which delivers maximum benefit to society.
The panel includes:

Pyramisa Beach Resort Hotel
On the morning of Finance Day, this breakfast panel event will look at how to channel green finance into clean energy projects that will deliver net zero and bolster energy security.
SSE and NatWest will share experiences in financing the world’s largest offshore wind farm at Dogger Bank, with an excellent panel of expert speakers who also partnered on the project.

Multi-level Action Pavilion, Blue Zone
This event will consider the role of technologies such as CCS and hydrogen in delivering a just transition for workers in high carbon industries. The panel will discuss lessons from Scotland, where a coalition of communities, industries and businesses aim to substantially reduce emissions from heavy industry and power generation by storing CO2 in depleted North Sea gas reservoirs.

This networking breakfast event will bring together a panel of energy industry and international development experts to assess what the current geopolitical situation means for delivery of this critical sustainable development goal. Will it slow us down as countries look again at increasing their own fossil fuel production, or will it help speed up deployment of renewable technologies that reduce reliance on imported fuels? How does this picture change in different global regions and what can be done to help tip the balance in favour of cleaner solutions?

Business Pavilion (We mean business coalition), Blue Zone
Decarbonising energy systems will be essential to avoid the worst impacts of climate change, and, with rising fossil fuel prices and security of supply concerns, political ambition for accelerating the energy transition is increasing around the world. This event, hosted by SSE, will bring together speakers from a range of perspectives to discuss regional and global priorities for accelerating the energy transition in the coming decade.
The session will be introduced by the University of Oxford who will present their research on how decarbonising the global energy system by 2050 could save US$12billion.

On the morning of Decarbonisation Day at COP27, join us for a networking breakfast and panel discussion on the vital role carbon capture and storage (CCS) and hydrogen technologies can play in decarbonising global power systems, providing critical flexibility to support renewables, and tackling emissions in hard to abate sectors like industry and transport.

International Chambers of Commerce Pavilion, Blue Zone
This panel discussion will bring together leading international energy perspectives to reflect on the key challenges and enablers of accelerating the global clean energy transition, particularly in the context of the international energy crisis. It will look back at the UK’s experiences in decarbonising its power sector faster than any developed economy and reflect on its progress in driving down technology costs in areas like offshore wind and look to identify any key lessons learned.

Glasgow Breakthrough Room, Climate Action, Innovation Zone
On the eve of Energy Day at COP27 SSE, National Grid and Hitachi Energy are hosting an invitation-only event which will take place from 16:30 in the Glasgow Breakthrough Room of the Climate Action Innovation Zone in Sharm El Sheikh. The Zone is located in the grounds of the Tonino Lamborghini Hotel, less than 300m from the COP27 Blue Zone.
We are delighted that Lord Adair Turner, Chair of the Energy Transitions Commission, will deliver some opening remarks to kick off the event at 17:00, followed by some relaxed, fireside chat-style discussions, and then a networking reception and refreshments from 18:00.

Launched in May 2022 as a legacy of COP26, the Powering Net Zero Pact (“the Pact”) is an initiative created by SSE plc with 10 other founding partners, including Balfour Beatty; DEME Group; GE Renewables; Hitachi Energy; NKT; RJ McLeod; Siemens Energy; Siemens Gamesa; Subsea 7; and Vestas. These organisations are focused on collaboration across five areas of ambition: achieving net zero carbon emissions; protecting and enhancing the natural environment; transitioning to a circular economy; guaranteeing fair work and sustainable jobs; and adding value to local communities.
