Responding to the Climate Change Committee Report, “Delivering a reliable decarbonised power system”, SSE Chief Executive, Alistair Phillips-Davies said:

“The 2020s need to be a decade of delivery.

The CCC report makes a compelling case for immediate action if the UK is to meet its target of decarbonising the power system, which is essential to achieving net zero.

“This country has the people, the technology and the capital to be a world leader in clean energy and now it has a clear plan of action too.

“As well as building more offshore wind than anyone else in the world and upgrading vital electricity networks, at SSE, we have shovel-ready CCS and hydrogen projects ready to go, unlocking billions of pounds of investment and supporting thousands of good jobs.

“The quicker these get the green light the faster the UK will achieve the cheaper, cleaner and more secure energy system we all want to see.

“This is particularly important given the increasingly competitive international investment market the UK faces.”
