Ensuring a Just Transition

More than one in five of our employees have made the switch from high to low-carbon careers.
We are enabling a Just Transition to ensure no one is left behind in the move to decarbonise.
As part of our efforts to create green jobs, we're delivering billions of pounds of investment in renewables, electricity networks and other infrastructure needed in the journey to net zero. This includes £7million a day into our Net Zero Acceleration Programme.
Research for our report, Just Transition: From Principles to Action, revealed at least 1,500 of our employees, now working across low-carbon projects, had previously worked in high-carbon roles. At our Beatrice Offshore Wind Farm off the Caithness coast in the north of Scotland, as many as two thirds of the control room staff are former oil and gas workers.
Whilst our Peterhead Power Station epitomises the Just Transition where the traditional gas-fired station is part of plans to develop one of the UK’s first power stations equipped with carbon capture technology.
Hear from some of the SSE colleagues that have switched from high-carbon jobs to low-carbon careers below.
