We power change

22 Apr 2021

We strive to be the UK’s pre-eminent green energy company and, in doing so, play our part in the fight against climate change.

There’s no one on the planet building more offshore wind than SSE right now and we’re proud of the huge investments we’re making to support the energy transition and the journey to net zero.

That’s why today we’ve launched our new We Power Change brand campaign, which shines a light on the SSE employees at the heart of building a better world of energy for tomorrow.

From our ambitious plans to treble our renewable output by 2030, to building the biggest offshore wind farm in the world at Dogger Bank; breaking our own record for the largest offshore wind farm in Scotland; or developing what will be the most productive wind farm in Europe on Shetland; and investing billions in the electricity transmission system – the electric highways – to bring that power to the grid and to your homes and businesses, we’re putting our money where our mouth is to decarbonise.

The powerful image of Jasmine Allan, one of our renewables apprentices, standing high atop one of our offshore wind turbines speaks volumes of an industry, a business and employees that are leading the fight against climate change.

Greater Gabbard was our first ever offshore wind farm, and now we’re building the biggest in the world at Dogger Bank – a project that can power a home for two days with just a single turn of its giant blades.

Apprentices like Jasmine are setting out in their careers in an industry that has a key part to play in preserving our world for future generations.

Jasmine, 21, said: “I am very proud to have been able to have the opportunity to take part in the campaign and also represent how a company like SSE is diverse. I really enjoy working and love the job that I do. I think renewables is the future, it allows us to create a greener, brighter future and SSE is showing how it can be done. It's fantastic to have an opportunity to work for such an amazing company.”

As a Principal Partner of COP26, the upcoming UN climate summit being held in Glasgow in November, we are providing some of the solutions to the global climate agenda.

Alistair Phillips Davies, SSE Chief Executive, said: “Building world-leading assets like Dogger Bank Wind Farm to help deliver net zero is at the heart of SSE’s low-carbon strategy, but it’s the thousands of people in the business that make these projects a reality.

“Our new brand campaign – We Power Change – launched today, serves to clearly communicate and demonstrate that. Change is what is required across the globe and every single colleague across our business is contributing to it.

“We’re proud of the impact they are making to deliver solutions to the climate emergency and our new brand campaign is about telling their story.”

Look out for our employees featuring in our campaign across media and digital over the coming weeks and months.
