Hydro contracts secured in T-1 capacity auction

SSE is pleased to confirm that all units it entered into the T-1 capacity auction in Great Britain have provisionally secured capacity contracts for the 12 months from 30 September 2021 to 30 September 2022.

The capacity which has provisionally secured an agreement comprises:

  • Two units at Lochay hydro station for a total of 42.709MW (de-rated)
  • Two units at Tummel hydro station for a total of 32.257MW (de-rated)

All of SSE’s thermal generation units have existing contracts for the upcoming capacity year.

The provisional results of the T-1 auction were published on Tuesday 2 March, with capacity contracts totalling 2.25GW allocated to electricity generators at an auction clearing price of £45/kW.

The provisional results are subject to confirmation by the Secretary of State for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS).

*A de-rating factor is applied to each station according to rules set by the UK Government.
