The SSE Airtricity Dublin Marathon, taking place later this month on Sunday 30 October, has sold out for the first time in its history and is now the fourth biggest marathon in Europe.

This October’s Marathon will see 19,500 taking part, up from 15,000 in 2015. Additionally, the SSE Airtricity Dublin Half Marathon held last month completely sold out after increasing the capacity to 9,500 from 7,000 in 2015.

The announcement was made at a launch event attended by Irish Olympian, Paul Pollock, Irish running legend Catherina McKiernan, and radio personality and Marathon novice Keith Walsh, along with Race Director Jim Aughney and Ronan Brady, Head of Marketing and Digital at SSE Airtricity.

Jim Aughney Race Director commented: “We are delighted with the record numbers and it gives the team great satisfaction that the appeal of the SSE Airtricity Dublin Marathon and Race Series continues to grow”.

Ronan Brady, Head of Marketing and Digital at SSE Airtricity noted: “As proud Irish health and fitness supporters and official sponsor of the SSE Airtricity Dublin Marathon and Race Series since 2013, we are delighted to see the massive increase in participants for this year’s event. With 19,500 people preparing their body and mind for the challenge of the SSE Airtricity Dublin Marathon or a desire to start a new healthy regime, we have created an online training plan with radio personality and Marathon novice Keith Walsh, through www.sseairtricity.com/keithwalsh, with inspirational coaching and tips to support everyone on their journey.”

SSE Airtricity is proud to partner again with Make A Wish, helping create extraordinary experiences for children with serious illness. For every kilometre run by SSE Airtricity employees through the Race Series and culminating in the Marathon, the company is donating €1 to Make-A-Wish. As a result, SSE Airtricity intends to donate €10,000 to Make A Wish by Marathon Day, October 30.
