Ambitious carbon budget welcomed

30 Jun 2016

The Government has today confirmed it will adopt the independent Committee on Climate Change’s recommendation for the Fifth Carbon Budget – providing much welcome news for the energy industry.

The Carbon Budget gives a clear signal to low carbon investors like SSE that the UK’s transition to cleaner, greener generation is still on track and the UK is firmly at the forefront of this, whether in or out of Europe.

Climate change is a global issue and the UK has been playing a leading role in moving towards a low-carbon economy.

Gregor Alexander, SSE’s Finance Director said: “With clear targets to reduce emissions by 57% between 2028 and 2032, the UK is signalling that it will continue to be a driving force in tackling climate change.

“As one of the country’s major investors in low-carbon infrastructure we welcome this clarity.

“Reducing carbon emissions is a challenge for us all and SSE is ready to play its part and work with the Government to help meet these targets.”
