SSE is encouraging local groups in Largs and Cumbrae to apply to the Hunterston Community Fund before the next application deadline on 29 February.
The fund is provided as part of SSE’s Hunterston Offshore Turbine Test facility. The fund supports community and charitable projects in Cumbrae, Fairlie, Largs and West Kilbride and has an annual value of £50,000.
Since it launched in 2013, over £120,000 has been distributed in the local area. Largs and Cumbrae have a joint panel with representative of both communities to make decisions on grant awards for their area. Fairlie and West Kilbride each manage their own share of the fund through their local Community Trusts.
A wide range of applications will be considered including social enterprise, amenity, educational, charitable and environmental projects. Previous awards include £3,000 to Cumbrae Primary School to set up an after-school cooking club, £1,420 to purchase equipment for the Largs Resilience team and £3,000 for a new sound system at Barrfields Theatre.
Ciara Wilson, SSE Community Funds Manager, said:“The Hunterston Community Fund provides a unique opportunity for local groups to turn a great project idea into a reality or to develop an existing project which may need additional funding support. In Largs and Cumbrae alone we have so far awarded £56,175 and with four weeks to go until the next deadline, I’d urge anyone who has a ‘bright idea’ for their community to apply now.”
