This past weekend saw the SSE Scottish Music Awards take place at the Old Fruitmarket in Glasgow, in aid of the music charity Nordoff- Robbins. The night was a great success raising £148,000 for the charity with some major artists in attendance and performing throughout the evening.
SSE sponsored the Best Live Act category at the awards which was taken home by Paisley born Paolo Nutini. Other winners included Clare Grogan, Model Aeroplanes and the Living Legends award went to the Bay City Rollers.
Donald MacLeod, Chairman of Nordoff Robbins Scotland said: “This year’s SSE Scottish Music Awards has been the biggest yet – with headline acts like the Bay City Rollers, Noel Gallagher and Paolo Nutini all being honoured.
“The last 17 years have been an incredible journey – not only for the Awards but also for the charity itself. Huge thanks to SSE for allowing us to grow – we’re overjoyed that the charity will reach more and more people all across Scotland, and in particular when we open our new facility in Aberdeen.
“We want to thank everyone who has helped, supported and donated – every penny counts towards bettering people’s lives through music, and that is an incredible achievement.”
Stuart MacKenzie, SSE Head of Sponsorship Communications, said:
“We’ve entered into a two year partnership with the charity and the awards are just a part of our relationship with the team at Nordoff- Robbins. Our aim is to make music therapy more accessible by working with the team to bring in another full-time Music Therapist in the North-East of Scotland.
“Live entertainment is really important to SSE and to our customers. As proud sponsors of The SSE Hydro in Glasgow, The SSE Arena, Wembley and The SSE Arena, Belfast we are delighted to be building on our association with entertainment throughout the UK.”
