Well, SSEPD hired the University of Glasgow’s De Havilland Wind Tunnel, part of the national wind tunnel facility, to find out.
Our test was to discover at what wind speed ordinary garden items would start moving.
Our network can be resilient in wind speeds up to 100mph, but a common cause of damage to it is items being blown into it by high winds and as you’ll see from the video, you might be surprised by the strength of the wind needed to move the items.
When high winds are forecast please make sure all garden items are put away or safely secured. Not only could they damage our network, they can also damage property or cause accidents.
Here are some tips on what to do to prepare if bad weather is forecasted.
