A generous team of SSE employees kicked off a charity football match recently – and scored enough cash to treat the young patients at the Queen Alexandria Hospital in Portsmouth.

The team from Langstone Technology Park, Havant, was led by Nick Gale and Felix Umolu, both Junior Test Analysts in Metering Development.

After deciding they would like to do something for charity, they contacted the hospital to see if the paediatric department would like toys bought for the youngsters at Christmas.

The SSE team took on a team from Accenture and raised £335.

Nick said: “We would like to thank everyone at SSE who signed up to support our charity match through playing or donating – and all those who came down on the night to watch the match.

“We’re all proud to make a difference to the young patients at Queen Alexandria Hospital this Christmas.”

On the hospital’s Christmas gift list were baby toys, Nintendo DS games, DVDs and Portable DVD players for children who are staying long-term or are unable to move around much.

The toys were delivered to the Paediatrics Departments by Nicholas Gale, Emma Browning, Felix Umolu, Jack Cleverley and Giselle Coker – much to the delights of its young patients.

Portsmouth Hospital’s Charity aims to support the patients of Portsmouth Hospitals NHS Trust by improving existing facilities and by providing additional equipment, supporting research programmes and innovation in the development of services and education to both patients and employees.

The charity supports all of the wards and departments across the Trust and you can choose to support and fundraise for an area of the hospital that is close to your heart.

Anne Rickets, Play Specialist at the Queen Alexandra, said: “The children really appreciate the great presents that the team from SSE delivered to our wards during their stay.”
