Elite surfers from across the UK descended on Thurso recently for the annual Thurso Surf Festival, supported by SSE.

This is the third year SSE has supported the UK Pro Surf Championships, which was held at three separate locations along the stunning coastline.

Thurso Surf Festival is also the first stop on the Wave Breaker Series, which was put together to challenge surfers in the best conditions possible at events in Scotland, England and Wales.

Ruth Liddicoat, SSE Liaison Manager, said: “Each year the championship seems to get better and better. It was great to be in three different and stunning locations over the course of the event and to see such a high calibre of surfing on challenging waves.

“With our increasing investment and activity in the north Highlands, particularly our Strathy projects just along the coast, we are delighted to get involved in local events like this and support the area.”

Dave Reed, CEO and organiser of UK Pro Surf, said: “We were again delighted to be working with the Highland Council and SSE, without their support we would be unable to put on such a great event.

“Again we were blessed with great waves and had the opportunity to surf three world class locations challenging all the surfers that came to compete.”
