A team of SSE employees from Fiddler's Ferry Power Station mucked in to help a local charity with their gardening project.

The four staff members spent a day working alongside beneficiaries at The Walton Lea Partnership, lending a helping hand with everything from painting to clearing land.

Karen Gillooly, fundraiser for The Walton Lea Partnership, said: “We are really grateful to the team of volunteers from SSE that turned up to work with us for the day. Their help meant we have managed to clear a large area of land that will now be used for planting by centre users. We have been lucky enough to benefit from SSE’s Be the Difference scheme in the past, it makes a huge difference to us at Walton Lea.”

The Walton Lea Partnership is a charity local to the Fiddler's Ferry site, providing supported employment to adults with learning difficulties, mental health problems, mobility issues and early onset Alzheimer’s.

They offer work in gardening, woodwork, floristry and conservation work, with some people working one day a week and others Monday to Friday.

Paul Cockcroft, from Fiddler's Ferry, added: “We were delighted to be able to offer our help to Walton Lea Partnership again, it is such a worthwhile cause. The team there and centre users make us feel so welcome and we can see what a difference our input makes.”
