England's men and women shine at the SSE SWALEC

01 Sep 2015

There was a double triumph for England’s cricketers at The SSE SWALEC yesterday with two wins out of two over Australia in the Natwest IT20 matches in Cardiff.

England’s men won by five runs thanks to a sparkling 74 from their revitalised captain Eoin Morgan and Moeen Ali’s 72*. Earlier in the day England’s women prevailed over Australia by five wickets led by a fine all round display by Natalie Sciver who starred with both bat (47) and ball (4-15).

England’s men have enjoyed a triumphant summer after winning back the Ashes urn from Australia and now the challenge is on to transfer their red ball success to the white ball formula.

Sarah Niblock, SSE Sponsorship Manager, said: “Wins for both England’s men and women in their IT20 games over Australia rounded off a superb summer of international sport. Everyone was very pleased with how well the first Ashes Test went at The SSE SWALEC earlier in the summer and yesterday’s games were the icing on the cake.

“Once again we had thousands of supporters at the match and the millions of sports fans watching across the world on television, which is very exciting exposure for our SSE SWALEC brand.”

SSE and partner Glamorgan recently unveiled a new logo and name for Wales’s best known cricket ground as the SWALEC Stadium became The SSE SWALEC.

The new logo reflects both the shape of the stadium and SSE’s other sponsored venues – The SSE Arena, Wembley (formerly Wembley Arena), The SSE Hydro in Glasgow and The SSE Arena, Belfast – but still maintains the association with SWALEC known to cricket fans across Wales.
