A record crowd of 30,710 turned up to see Ji So-Yun score the only goal of the game as Chelsea defeated Notts County at Wembley Stadium to win The SSE Women’s FA Cup.
It was the first time this showpiece match was staged at Wembley, which coupled with the record attendance and live coverage on BBC One, rounded off a fantastic summer for women’s football.
Alan Young, SSE Managing Director Corporate Affairs said: “Congratulations to Chelsea for winning The SSE Women’s FA Cup for the first time. Saturday’s match was a great advert for the game and a fantastic day for all 30,710 in the stadium.”
“There is no doubting the growth of the women’s game has been phenomenal over the last few years, but FA research shows there are thousands of girls wanting to take part. SSE is going to help change that.
“Our sponsorship of the women’s game is driven by the aim to making a difference to the future of women’s football and helping ensure women’s potential is fulfilled in every walk of life.”
Saturday’s final was the first in SSE’s four year partnership with The FA to help develop the women’s game.
