It’s time to put a stop to cold calling

Cold calls are unpleasant and unwanted. That’s why SSE put a stop to them a long time ago. We believe nuisance calls from companies attempting to sell products, insurance, PPI and the like interrupt people’s days and invade their privacy.

SSE has joined Which? in their Calling Time campaign urging more businesses to take action.

The Which? campaign wants businesses and Government to make three big changes:

•    The government to make business leaders accountable for any nuisance calls made by their company and
make it mandatory for businesses to show their number when they call.

•    More businesses to join the campaign and take a stand on cold calling.

•    Regulators to give people more power over their personal data and how it is used.

SSE took action and ended this practice as it listened to customers. No-one wants to be bothered at home by an unknown company. So we won’t contact anyone that hasn’t already explicitly given us permission to do so.

Will Morris, Group Managing Director, Retail at SSE, said:

“Nobody likes receiving a sales call they haven’t consented to, so we put a stop to it back in 2013. We’re not interested in harassing customers – we’re only interested in speaking to them on their own terms about products and services that are actually relevant to them. In the long run, it makes commercial sense as well as being the right thing to do. So we’re right behind this campaign and want to see more action to clamp down on nuisance calls.”
