SSEPD's Future Networks team hosted a knowledge sharing event at the IET Birmingham on 29 January 2015.
The event was to present the findings of its transformer intrascope project. This was funded through the energy regulator Ofgem's Network Innovation Allowance fund.
The intrascope, which has been described as a selfie stick for transformers, allows the equipment to be inspected on site rather than being dismantled and taken away. This will result in quicker internal inspection and condition assessment. The information can be used to bring cost savings to customers by delaying expensive asset replacement.
The event was attended by other transmission and distribution network operators and interested technology companies.
