Scottish Hydro Electric Power Distribution has increased its resources, moving engineers, other employees and equipment to areas expected to be affected ahead of a severe weather forecast for northern Scotland.
Two storms with wind speeds of 80 to 90 mph are expected to hit north Scotland, Western and Northern Isles from early Friday morning through to Sunday.
The first storm is forecast to bring gusts of up to 90 mph, affecting Western Isles, Shetland, Caithness, Moray Firth and Tayside.
The second storm, from early Saturday morning through to Sunday, could cause lightning and gusts of up to 90 mph.
Although SHEPD’s electricity network is more than 99% reliable, it has transferred resources from its sister company in England to Scotland to minimise any disruption.
