More than 150 members of staff from across Ireland have helped walk SSE Ireland to victory, after being announced as the winner of the Best Large Workplace Award in this year’s Workplace Pedometer Challenge.
Staff from across the business participated in the month long challenge, amassing a grand total of 2,583,702 steps, 400 kilometres or the equivalent walking distance from Slieve Kirk to Great Island.
The Workplace Pedometer Challenge, now in its seventh year, supports workplace employees in getting active and hitting their stepping goals over a one month period. The SSE Ireland Health Working Lives Team set a business target of walking from Belfast to Dublin and back, a target that was exceeded by more than 60 kilometres.
SSE topped the workplace table, fending off competition from more than 50 other Irish workplaces, including ESB, IBM Apple and Bord Gais Networks.
Patricia Higgins, who accepted the award on the company’s behalf, commented: “We’re thrilled with finishing top, it’s a fantastic achievement for everyone in the business, and this is a real companywide award, with staff from all corners of the business contributing small steps.”
