Cumbernauld employees encounter peckish lemurs while lending a hand at zoo

A team of customer service advisors from SSE’s Cumbernauld site got up close to some furry friends when they spent the day at a zoo in West Lothian, Scotland.
The 17 employees rolled up their sleeves to lend a hand painting, weeding and laying bark in the animal enclosures as part of the company’s employee volunteering programme ‘Be the difference’.
The scheme enables every employee to take a day away from their normal work duties and help out a project close to their heart in the local community.
Aimee McCole from SSE in Cumbernauld said: “Unfortunately, the zoo had experienced a fire last year which caused lots of damage so we were delighted to be able to go out and offer as much help as they needed.
“Part of our work was to give some of the animal enclosures a lick of paint and we all really enjoyed our time there.
“An extra bonus came at the end of the day when we were treated to feeding some cute lemurs. They certainly weren’t afraid of getting up close and personal when there was some tasty treats on the go.”
The Five Sisters Zoo in West Lothian encourages conservation of endangered wildlife for both native and non-native species, and creates a safe environment for all animals set within 15 acres.
SSE’s employee volunteering programme, Be the difference, has helped over 2,100 projects with employees dedicating 24,000 days since its launch in 2009.
