SSE supports first national Women’s Sport Conference with DCMS and Women in Sport
31 Oct 2014
SSE was proud to partner the first national Women’s Sport Conference hosted by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport and Women in Sport, which took place at Lord's Cricket Ground in London yesterday.
The event aims to increase participation for women and girls, develop the workforce for women in sport and make women's sport visible through commercial investment and media profile.
Following our successful sponsorship of the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games and our athlete ambassadors, SSE is well placed to support such an important conference.
Wendy Barbour, SSE Director for Commonwealth Games and Sponsorship, said:
“Women in Sport is the leading sport charity dedicated to improving and promoting opportunities for women and girls in sport at every level so we’re delighted to be supporting its conference.
“Sponsorship for women’s sports currently sits at less than 1% of all sport sponsorship and that needs to change. At SSE we’re proud to make a difference so the opportunity to support such an important event was too good to pass up.”
Ruth Holdaway, Chief Executive, Women in Sport, said:
“SSE’s sponsorship of this event is an extremely welcome demonstration of business’ interest in supporting the cause of women’s sport. Today’s event marks an incredibly important step in the future of women’s sport and Women in Sport will be working to transform sport for the benefit of every woman and girl in the UK. We are delighted to have SSE working alongside us today and look forward to highlighting the positive impact that companies and corporations can have in building a fairer society for women’s sport.”
