Following a very competitive tendering process, SSE Airtricity Utility Solutions, Ireland’s leading street light contractor, have secured a 5 year contract with Fingal County Council to maintain all 31,000 public lights in the county.
The contract win is another landmark for the business, which was only formed back in 2009, following the acquisition of ESB’s street lighting division. SSE’s Utility Solutions business now maintains more lights across Local Authorities in Ireland than ever before. From its inception in 2009, the company has increased the number of lights maintained to 284,000 nationwide
The Fingal contract win is one of the biggest for SSE Airtricity Utility Solutions and covers a geographical area of 452.sq km which spans rural, urban and suburban communities, and is home to several key elements of national and regional infrastructure, including Dublin Airport. The Public Lighting Maintenance contract covers 31,000 lights in that area, which represents a 60% increase in the number of lights maintained in the general Dublin area by the company.
SSE Airtricity Utility Solutions Managing Director, Gerry Burke, commented;
“This contract is yet another huge success for our business and continues our progress as Ireland’s fastest growing street light contractor. We’ve had a number of successes over the past few months, including being recognised as an industry leader for our safety practices, following the H.S.E’s recommendation to award us with the ISO 18001 Award.
Typical works involved in this contract will include routine maintenance of faults as identified by patrol, electrical and structural surveys, testing and emergency responses to incidents such as accidents, vandalism and traffic accidents.
