A group of SSE employees rolled up their sleeves to help give a village hall in Steeple Langford, Wiltshire a much-needed facelift.
10 employees from the IT team in Portsmouth painted a number of rooms as well as cleaned the guttering, carpet and external paintwork for the popular Langford Village Hall, which provides social events for people in Little, Steeple and Hanging Langford.
The hall received the spruce up thanks to SSE’s Community at Heart scheme which gives every employee a day away from their normal work duties to help out a project in their local community.
Dawn Watson, a Power Systems Business Analyst for SSE, said: “The exterior was getting a little tired and some of the paint had been peeling from the kitchen, the oil tank and also the gents and ladies loos. The team all set about their tasks with gusto and those who were not painting took to washing the guttering and outside paintwork.
“The whole day was helped out by absolutely brilliant weather, bacon butties and the ladies of the village providing copious quantities of cakes, teas and coffees. We’re delighted with the difference we’ve been able to make.”
Since the launch of Community at Heart in 2009, SSE employees have dedicated over 24,000 days (the equivalent of 194,000 hours) to thousands of deserving projects right across Scotland, England, Ireland and Wales.
