Our SSE Ambassadors stormed to glory at the 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games, taking home an amazing five medals between them with their incredible performances on the track and in the ring.

First to claim his prize was Welshman Aled Davies. He took home silver in the combined category, F42/44 discus. Although it wasn’t the gold medal he had dreamt of, Aled said he gave it his all at his first Commonwealth Games.

Next up was Scotswoman Libby Clegg who romped home in in the T11/12 100 metres final. The visually-impaired 24-year-old and guide Mikail Huggins ran a world-leading 12.20 seconds to claim gold. And she immediately thanked SSE after the race for all the support and encouragement given in the run up to the Games.

Fellow Scotland team mate and SSE poster girl Eilidh Child was under starters orders just minutes later. Competing in front of her home crowd, Eilidh had the weight of expectation on her shoulders. But she kept her cool and won a silver medal - and the hearts of a nation - in the 400m hurdles.

Afterwards Eilidh said: "Being the poster girl did add a bit of pressure. But when the race started I forgot all about that and it all just came together.

“It's just so amazing. I have so many different emotions - relief, happiness."

Para-cyclist Jade Jones won bronze in the women’s para-sport 1500m, T54 race at a rain soaked Hampden Park. The 18-year-old had been hoping for a top five but crossed the line third.  She said it was the biggest achievement of her career so far.

Finally Northern Irish boxer Michael Conlan left it until the penultimate day of the Games to knock out a gold medal. Michael, 22, beat England’s Qais Ashfaq at bantamweight with a unanimous judges’ verdict.
