A sky-high milestone has been reached in the Beauly Denny project with the completion of a new electrical tower, 2,500ft up a remote Scottish mountain – making it the highest in the UK.

The transmission tower is located on the Corrieyairack Pass above Fort Augustus and is officially the electrical tower with the highest elevation in the UK.

SSE engineers endured challenging terrain and harsh weather as they slowly worked their way to the summit.

Mark Mathieson, SSEPD Managing Director, explains: "Construction of the Beauly Denny Project over the Corrieyairack Pass has been one of the most challenging aspects of the entire project.

“Since 2010 our teams have completed the construction of a nine mile access track to the summit, prepared and installed 39 foundations, erected the new steel towers and have recently finished stringing the new conductors.

“Although the teams have endured harsh weather conditions and faced engineering challenges, they maintained their momentum and have completed the section on time."
