At SSE’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) shareholders heard more about how SSE acts in a responsible way to ensure it exceeds the expectations of customers, employees and the communities in which it operates.

SSE’s Chairman, Lord Smith of Kelvin, told shareholders that, “SSE was committed to being a responsible company in all that it does.” He explained that SSE’s actions over the past 12 months showed how the company, “is committed to achieving business success in a responsible way.”

The AGM opened with this video that highlighted some of the actions SSE has taken to ensure it has a positive impact on people’s lives.

This includes: the introduction of the energy industry’s longest ever price freeze; providing extra support for customers during power cuts; a commitment to pay the Living Wage to all employees; donating over 8,000 days to charities through its employee volunteering scheme; and engaging with communities in a meaningful and supportive way wherever it is developing new projects.

In the video Alistair Phillips-Davies, Chief Executive, says: ‘"Shareholders allow us to exist; but it’s our customers, our employees, and the communities in which we live, work and operate, who allow us to be successful. So shareholders need us to do the right thing."
