The curtain goes up on the Commonwealth Games this week and thousands of SSE customers will be there to experience it for themselves.
Almost a decade of hard work, planning and preparation finally comes to fruition for the athletes taking part, in an amazing 11 days of sport.
As a proud partner of the Games, SSE has been able to offer its customers the chance to be a part of one of the world’s largest sporting events. It’s just one example of how we are investing in the communities we serve and offering our customers’ access to some of the most sought after events in the UK.
As the athletes will attest, representing your country at the Commonwealth Games is an accumulation of years of hard work and sacrifice.
There’s no quick route to becoming a champion and just like the athletes gearing up to compete, SSE is investing for the long-term to ensure it’s the best in its class too.
The energy industry is the proverbial marathon and not a sprint. We make long-term investments in critical infrastructure and work with the Government and others to help them ensure you can still flick a switch, or swipe a tablet screen, without ever worrying if the energy will be there to power it.
And it’s vital that energy comes at an affordable price, both now and in the future. That’s why we committed to freezing our prices until at least January 2016. No ifs, no buts and no gimmicks. Just long term security of knowing your prices won’t rise for at least two winters.
Energy suppliers have a wider role than just selling energy to their customers. Electricity and gas are not luxuries. Everyone is entitled to live in comfort and warmth and we have a social responsibility to provide the energy people need at a price they can afford.
Our price freeze goes some way to giving that reassurance but we want to go further. By removing Government levies off bills and into general taxation we could cut bills. Importantly, we’d also reduce the burden on those that can least afford it.
We know price is important, but customers don’t just want a good deal; they want to be sure their supplier offers excellent service too.
That’s why we are proud of the fact that uSwitch have voted SSE best for customer service every year since 2006. Customers are the heart of SSE but we need to continually improve and take action to make a difference.
Just like the athletes that will be competing in Glasgow, SSE is determined to work the hardest, be the most innovative and stand out from the competition.
