With just days to go to the Commonwealth Games, SSE sent its ambassadors a final show of support.

It unveiled large messages of encouragement for Aled Davies, Eilidh Child, Katarina Johnson Thompson and Michael Conlon at iconic locations in their home towns.

As a proud sponsor of Glasgow 2014 and official partner to four of the Home Nations, SSE is also urging fans to get behind their country and tweet their support too using #GoWales, #GoEngland, #GOScotland or #GoNI.

It promises to reward every tweet with funding for up and coming athletes as it doubles the number of talented youngsters who will benefit from the SSE Next Generation programme. It provides financial assistance, mentoring and training to the UK’s future medal hopefuls.

Welsh medal hopeful Aled Davies felt the support of his hometown with his message displayed on the iconic Ogmore Castle near Bridgend.

The London 2012 Paralympic discus champion adopted his powerful throwing stance in front of the castle backdrop on which the projected message read: “Big man, big throw, big win! @AledDavies2012 for gold #GOWAL”.

Aled said: ‘It’s always an honour to compete for Wales and knowing my country is behind me gives me that extra motivation to win a medal”.

In Liverpool, Katarina Johnson-Thompson’s motivating message was emblazoned across the Mersey ferry as it took to its journey down the river, with the athlete on board.

The Liverpudlian Home Nation Ambassador said: “One of the greatest lifts any athlete can get going into a massive competition like the Commonwealth Games is knowing your hometown and the whole country is behind you.

“That’s why we’re encouraging the four Home Nations to get behind their team by tweeting #Go and their country – it’s such an easy way to show your support and help the next generation of sports stars.”

In Scotland, children from Perth Grammar spelt out their message for their local hero, SSE Ambassador Eilidh Child, on the school playing field.

The children’s message read “Come On @EilidhChild”, in a bid to offer encouragement to the former Perth Grammar PE teacher ahead of her performance at the sporting spectacular.

And in Northern Ireland, SSE Ambassador Michael Conlon took centre stage at Harland and Wolff dock in Belfast as he discovered his message which read: “Small country, Big punch! @Mickconlan11 for Gold. #GoNI.

The Home Nation that finishes top of the SSE #GoGlasgow table will get the maximum funding with young athletes from the countries in second, third and fourth set to benefit too.
