SSE Ambassador Libby Clegg stormed to gold last night in the 100m para final.

The visually-impaired 24-year-old and guide Mikail Huggins romped home to glory in a world leading 12.20 seconds in the T11/12 100 metres.

Libby thanked SSE immediately after the race for all the support and encouragement given in the run up to the Games.

She also praised the crowd for giving her that added edge. She said: “The crowd was just phenomenal. The cheers they were giving us were just amazing and really uplifting. It definitely helped my performance.

“Just the amount of support we have got from everyone has just been unbelievable, really. I don't know how else I can describe it."

Libby did a lengthy lap of honour to enjoy her big moment with Mikail.

She said: "It took about 40 minutes to get around Hampden but we were getting so much support I wanted to say thanks to everyone that cheered me on.

“It was so nice, we just put so much into it and it was incredible to have that amount of support.”
Libby revealed she’s only had five hours sleep after celebrating with her family and then getting back to the athletes’ village.

And she’s already set her sights on her next event.

She said: “I’ve got the Europeans in a couple of weeks and then it's preparation for Rio but I’m going to enjoy this at the moment.”

Libby’s gold medal saw Scotland smash two of its own Commonwealth Games records, winning more golds than ever before and equaling its best ever tally of medals with a week to go.

There was success all round yesterday for SSE with Libby’s fellow ambassador and para athlete Aled Davies winning silver in the discus.

Aled narrowly lost out to England’s Dan Greeves despite a winning start.

The proud sportsman visited SSE’s Home Nations House after collecting his medal yesterday afternoon and will also appear today to meet and greet guests and take part in a question and answer session.
