SSE Ambassador Aled Davies added a silver medal to his Olympic gold today in the para discus final.
The Welsh team captain lost out to England’s Dan Greeves despite a winning start.
A throw of 46.83m in the second round of the F42/F44 discus final put him behind in the first session of the athletics at Hampden Park.
Aled was desperate to add Commonwealth gold to his medal haul and was emotional after his final throw, knowing it wasn’t good enough to take the top spot on the podium.
Despite taking second place, the silver medal was Team Wales’s ninth - a record for the team, surpassing the 19 medals they won in Delhi in 2010.
Ahead of the Games, patriotic Aled told More For You he wanted to hear the Welsh national anthem ring out at Hampden.
He said: When I just think about pulling on the Wales vest and of the possibility of hearing the Welsh national anthem, I get tingles all over my body.
“Being a Welshman is something so close to my heart and I'm a very patriotic person. There's a strong Wales contingent in the Great Britain team and hopefully that'll show in the medal table in Glasgow.”
Aled was expecting the Commonwealth Games to be a hard competition saying beforehand. “This is going to be the toughest competition of my life, tougher than London. I'll be happy with a medal but I'd be ecstatic if I come away with my medal of choice.”
