Animal lovers from Scottish and Southern Energy Power Distribution (SSEPD) based in Inverness spent the day at their local animal welfare charity helping look after abandoned and injured pets.

The team helped clean out cages, feed animals and walk dogs at the Scottish SPCA, thanks to the company’s employee volunteering scheme, Community at Heart. The scheme lets every employee take a day’s paid leave to help out with a project in their local community.

This is the third visit made by employees from the depot to the charity which looks after all kinds of abandoned and injured animals including cats, dogs, birds, farm animals and exotic pets.

Rachel Maclennan from the SSEPD depot explains why they chose to support the centre. She said: “I think it’s fair to say a lot of us here in Inverness are big animal lovers so when we were looking to give a helping hand to a local charity the Scottish SPCA was our top choice.

“The charity looks after a wide range of animals, many of whom have been unloved, badly treated and left abandoned. The day we were there, we helped look after four abandoned Collie pups.

“Spending time at the centre certainly makes you realise the great work the charity does and we’re keen to return and help out again later this year.”

The Scottish Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (Scottish SPCA) is Scotland's animal welfare charity. It receives no government or lottery funding and relies on public donations to continue rescuing and rehoming abused, abandoned and injured animals in Scotland.
