Community Investment Annual Review –Dunkeld kids delighted by new outdoor learning hub
04 Jul 2014
£14,120 was awarded from the Griffin and Calliachar fund to build an outdoor learning hub at the Royal School of Dunkeld in September 2013.
The Royal School of Dunkeld Parent Partnership Group has been very active in developing additional educational and recreational opportunities for pupils at the school, especially in the playground. After delivering many successful outdoor learning projects such as their interactive maths area, orchard, and pond, the group identified the need for an outdoor covered area to allow for Outdoor Learning all year round.
The award of over £14,000 for the installation of a large outdoor learning hub has allowed the school’s 180 pupils to benefit from a safe and stimulating outdoor space which can deliver all aspects of the formal and informal curriculum whilst meeting the need for hands-on experiences and physical activity. The children can explore and discover in a way that they can’t normally do in the indoor classroom. The hub provides an excellent resource for the pupils , adding value to their learning experience and providing an outdoor venue for other youth groups in the area including the Brownies and after school clubs.
Kim Ramsay, Head Teacher, Royal School of Dunkeld, said “We are delighted with the new hut which has enhanced the children’s learning experiences and provides us with the space to take the classroom outdoors at any time, whatever the weather.”
Ciara Wilson, SSE Community Investment Advisor, said “This project has been three years in the making, during which time the group have carried out their own local fundraising and consulted widely with pupils, staff and parents. The end result is a fantastic resource that can be enjoyed by the whole school as well as the wider community.”
