SSE’s latest kit scheme has successfully given funding to 62 teams with a sporting link to the Commonwealth games.

The scheme takes a different slant each year and funding totalling £15,500 was offeredto employees of SSE to apply for their associated club.  This year it was stipulated that the sport had to be one of the 17 featuring in the forthcoming Commonwealth Games.

From athletics to wrestling SSE successfully found teams which covered all of the qualifying sports and awarded the £250 grants for kits with the SSE and Commonwealth Games logo on them. These included judo mats, hoodies and ear defenders for shooting.

Joanne Moriarty, a Depot Clerk at SSE's West London Depot, who was successful in her application said:

"The new tops have brought us closer together, and make us feel like we are all one team now when we run our local 'Parkrun' at Black Park.  We wear our tops to all the running events we attend both in the local area and further a field around the country.

“We are currently planning to attend races overseas, and will all be wearing our SSE Commonwealth Kits tops with pride."

Community Development Manager, Susan Duncan who runs the annual scheme said:

“It is important for SSE to run this type of scheme for its employees. It not only highlights our Great Place to Work value but it shows commitment to those that choose to use their spare time volunteering for their local area.”
