Scottish cyclist Jack Carlin broke his wrist the first time he went on a cycling track - but it hasn't changed his mind about becoming the next Sir Chris Hoy.

The 17-year-old sprint and keirin track star admitted he is accident prone and crashed his bike the first time went on a track.

But the SSE Next Generation star got straight back on the bike determined to reach the top of his sport.

Jack said: "I broke my wrist the first time I went on a track bike.

"I was going round the track, it was an outdoor flat track in Glasgow.

"I don't know what happened.

"I just fell off and got this throbbing pain in my wrist.

"My mum had just dropped me off and had to come straight back and take me to the hospital.

"I'm pretty accident prone."

After breaking both his ankles playing football in primary school, his ambitions to become a footballer were shattered.

His physio recommended he participate in a non-contact sport, his mother spotted a flyer for a local cycling club and signed him up.

He started off mountain biking before progressing to road biking, after his parents bought him a second hand bike off Ebay.

But that didn't last too long, after his bike took "the majority of the damage" after an incident involving a car.

"I got hit by a car, five days before the British Nationals last year.

"I was leaving my house, came up to a junction and got clipped by a car.

“Luckily I just had a few scratches but my bike was in a bad way.

"Like I said I'm accident prone."

Once he started to get a reputation for being fearless, Jack made the transition to the velodrome, following in the footsteps of Sir Chris Hoy.

He is now ranked 2nd in Britain (youth) for the 500 sprint event.

"I admire Sir Chris," he added.

"He has won everything possible in track cycling.

"I would like to achieve what he's done.

"He's such a good role model and he will help you if he can."

Jack, who trains everyday is hoping to take part in the Commonwealth Games in 2018.
