The SSE Airtricity Dublin Race series Fingal 10km race will return to Swords, Co. Dublin this Sunday (20th July). A crowd of 3000 walkers, runners and joggers is expected to take part in what is only the third ever SSE Airtricity Dublin race series event held outside of the Phoenix Park.
This Fingal 10K run is the second race marked in this year’s SSE Airtricity Dublin race series which kicked off on June 28th in the Phoenix Park with the Irish runner 5 mile race. This race helps to fill the gap between the 5 mile and Frank Duffy 10 mile races which both take place in the Phoenix Park.
“The Fingal 10k run was a huge success last year, with entries up from 2013, we are definitely looking forward to its third instalment this weekend. The support from the community was excellent and we are hoping that the locals will be out again this year cheering on our participants. We have our fingers crossed that the sunny weather will make an appearance in North County Dublin but no doubt it will be an enjoyable day regardless of the typical Irish conditions” said race director Jim Aughney.
Runner up of this year’s Irish Runner 5 mile race, Sean Hehir , will be aiming to go one better here after just returning from High Altitude training, although he will face some tough competition from Paddy Hamilton and Mark Hoey who were close on his heels in the first race. Breege Connolly, Fiona Stack and Ailish Malone will also be battling it out to win the female title. The strong elite field has continued to make winner predictions even more difficult.
Race organisers are reminding entrants that there will be road closures in place from early morning in the Swords area. Parking is available in the Pavilions Shopping Centre close to the start line.
