SSE volunteers show their pedal power on London to Brighton charity bike ride
18 Jun 2014
A team of SSE volunteers has completed a 54 mile London to Brighton cycle ride to raise funds for the British Heart Foundation.
The 52 employees based at SSE’s Havant office in Portsmouth joined around 20,000 other cyclists of different ages and abilities with the aim to beat their fundraising total from the previous year of £3,500.
The work of the British Heart Foundation is central to the discoveries of new treatments that are changing the face of the UK’s fight against heart disease.
Owen Chewter, a Support Analyst for SSE and one of the cyclists taking part, said: “This year we looked like a proper team with SSE branded cycle jerseys which really spurred us on to represent the company and complete the challenge.
“The race went well and all riders arrived at the finish line incident free with our first rider finishing in 3 hours 15 minutes with an average speed of around 16.5mph.”
The team have raised £1,500 of their target £5,000 so far and still hope to reach this now the event is over.
The cyclists were supported by James Docherty, SSE Sponsorship Account Manager (which provided branded jerseys) and SHB Vehicle Hire (which provided transport for all the bikes.)
