A team of 12 employees from SSE’s Cumbernauld and Perth offices are set to take on the Caledonian Hike to raise funds for Foundation Scotland.

The competition is hotting up, as the team named ‘SSE We Can Do It’, have made it into the top ten fundraising teams, with an incredible £3000 already logged on their donation page with just under a month to go until the event.

Team member Lynda Harrison, a Quality Manager at SSE based in Cumbernauld said, “We have been working on our fundraising together since January when we set up a tuck shop at work and enticed staff along for sweet treats in the afternoon…the money quickly started to treacle(!) in.

“We then spotted the Glitter Glasses phenomenon on a social media site and thought we’d give it a go – 300 orders and an army of glitter fairies later, we made nearly £2000! We’ve since dusted off the glitter and are now organising a series of charity nights including a ‘Come Dine with Me’ evening and a Hawaiian Night! We have had such great fun as a team whilst raising money for local charities.”

Fraser Lennox, Head of Foundation Scotland Events, said “‘SSE We Can Do It’ is a brilliant example of a team embracing the spirit of the event by working together. We’re delighted to see them in the top ten fundraising teams and hope their success inspires people to dig deep for a good cause.”

The outdoor charity trek takes place on June 14 and sees teams walk 24 miles in 12 hours along parts of the West Highland Way; one of Scotland’s most stunning and iconic walks.
