SSE is set to help insulate over 300 homes in Kippax, Holbeck and Beeston through the new Green Deal Communities Fund (GDCF) scheme in association with Leeds City Council.

The Green Deal Communities Fund was launched by the government to help local authorities increase uptake of energy efficiency measures that can help reduce energy use and make homes cheaper to heat.

The funding assistance from SSE for Leeds residents will come from the GDCF and SSE’s allocation of the Energy Company Obligation (ECO) totalling approximately £2.7m. This will make energy efficiency installations more affordable, and in some cases provide up to 80% of the total cost of the measures.

Charles Farley, Leeds Framework Director at SSE, said: “The Green Deal Communities Fund has been designed to help private householders and private tenants, that have not previously been eligible for free installations, to receive significant financial assistance to make energy efficiency improvements to their home more accessible and affordable.

“Many homes in Leeds, and indeed across the UK, are non-traditionally built or have solid walls and are therefore renowned for their poor insulation. A key way to reduce fuel bills is to improve the insulation to ensure they stay warmer for longer. I urge residents in Leeds to find out about the help they can receive to help their homes wrap up ahead of winter.”

Residents of Kippax can find out more about the Green Deal Communities Fund at SSE’s community engagement vehicle located at The Green, Kippax from Wednesday 25th June to Friday 27th June. You don’t have to be an SSE or Southern Electric customer to benefit from this support.

The Green Deal Communities Fund is only a small part of a wider project being run by the Leeds City Council alongside partners SSE, Willmott Dixon and Keepmoat under the Wrap Up Leeds initiative. Find our more www.wrapupleeds.co.uk
