SSE employees dug out their pruners and garden shears to help the Countryside Education Trust maintain the picturesque Beaulieu estate in Hampshire.

SSE has been helping the Countryside Education Trust (CET) with conservation maintenance of the estate since 2011 and employees recently returned to undertake further scrub and path clearance, tree planting and fence building as part of the company’s employee volunteering scheme, Community at Heart.

Simon Davis, an employee from SSE’s Penner Road site in Portsmouth, said: “We all really enjoy taking time out from our usual working day to roll up our sleeves and getting stuck in to maintain the beautiful Beaulieu Estate.

“Since we first began volunteering for the Trust back in 2011, nearly 100 employees have lent a hand. It’s fair to say we’re delighted that it has become a regular volunteering fixture for us with employees now taking monthly opportunities to provide assistance which enables us to have a thoroughly enjoyable and productive time.”

Community at Heart is SSE’s employee volunteering scheme which allows every employee to take a day’s paid leave from their normal work duties to help out with a project in their local community.

The Countryside Education Trust is a charity established in 1975 and is devoted to countryside and environmental education.

Its aim is to promote and operate activities and facilities which enable children and adults to learn about and care for the countryside using the diverse resources of the New Forest and the Beaulieu Estate.
