SSE Airtricity invites 130 local children to open day at Richfield Wind Farm in Ireland

As part of the Global Wind Day celebrations, SSE Airtricity will host a ‘walk and talk’ open day at Richfield Wind Farm in Co. Wexford, Ireland, on Tuesday 24th June.
SSE Airtricity, Ireland’s largest renewable energy generator, has invited 130 local primary school children to the event. Experts from the company will show the pupils and their teachers around the wind farm, explaining how the wind turbines operate and answering any questions about renewable energy.
Students and staff from St. Fintan’s National School, Bridgetown; Murrintown National School, Murrintown; St. Anne’s National School, Rathangan and Realt na Mara National School, Kilmore will all be attending the open day.
Anne Reynolds, SSE Airtricity, said: “We’re looking forward to a great day out at Richfield. I think it will be interesting and enjoyable for all involved. The children will have a fantastic opportunity to learn all about green energy and how the wind farm operates. At SSE Airtricity, we’re always trying to create positive energy, and I’m sure the pupils will bring plenty of that with them on the day!”
With a capacity of 27MW, Richfield Wind Farm produces enough green energy to power 150 homes in the local area. In April, SSE Airtricity presented over €20,000 to community projects close to Richfield through its Community Fund Programme. This brings the company’s total contribution to local projects in Co. Wexford up to €150,000.
Global Wind Day is a celebration of wind energy, organised by the European Wind Energy Association and the Global Wind Energy Council. This year it took place on Sunday 15th June, with thousands of events organised worldwide in the days and weeks surrounding it. SSE Airtricity has already hosted the Eco-Schools Global Wind Awards, which were held at Slieve Kirk Wind Farm in Co.
Derry~Londonderry on Thursday 12th June. Children from 30 Eco-Schools were invited to showcase their environmental achievements, before being taken on a guided tour of the wind farm.
