British Athletic Championship success for SSE ambassadors Eilidh and Katarina
30 Jun 2014
SSE Ambassadors Eilidh Child and Katarina Johnson-Thompson are both celebrating after winning medals at the British Athletic Championships in Birmingham.
Eilidh Child stormed to the 400m hurdles title, winning the race in 55.58s and securing her spot in the team for the European Championships in Zurich in August.
Likewise, Katarina Johnson-Thompson showed why she’s on the road to success at the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games, picking up a silver medal in the high-jump with 1.86m.
Not content with silver, Katarina returned 24 hours later to secure gold and a new outdoor personal best of 6.81m in the long jump. Katarina is now eligible to compete in the heptathlon, long jump and high jump in Zurich.
With less than a month to go to the Commonwealth Games, SSE is thrilled to see both of our ambassadors put in medal-winning performances.
SSE is a proud sponsor of the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games. As part of its investment in sport, it is also sponsoring four of the Home Nation teams - England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
Eilidh and Katarina are part of a team of ambassadors, led by six time Olympic gold medallist Sir Chris Hoy, flying the flag for their Home Nations and inspiring the next generation of sporting talent.
The partnerships are helping support athletes - from grassroots to champions – excel in their sport.
Alongside SSE, Eilidh and Katarina are urging fans to get behind their nation ahead of the Games and tweet their support using #GoWales, #GoEngland, #GoScotland or #GoNI.
The Home Nation with the most tweets will receive additional SSE Next Generation funding to help more young sports stars come through the ranks.
