The Airs, SSE Airtricity’s workplace choir, were once again on song when they performed at the annual AIMS Choral Festival in New Ross, County Wexford.

The AIMS Choral Festival, now in its 30th year, is renowned across Ireland for its high competitive standards and friendly informal atmosphere. This is the second time in a month the Airs have taken to the stage, after being highly commended for their performance at Ireland’s Feis Ceoil music festival in Dublin last month.

The choir, composed of the mixed voices of basses, tenors, altos and sopranos, delighted the audience and adjudicators with their ensemble performances of two contrasting pieces, including Freddy Mercury's, Somebody to Love abd Scottish Traditional's, Loch Lohmond. Their on-song performances earned The Airs a third place award from the AIMS adjudicators.

Choir singer and Great Island CCGT Commercial Manager, Kevin Burke said: “Following the success we had at the Feis Ceoil, we’re very proud of taking third place at the AIMS festival. Over the last twelve months, The Airs have gone from strength to strength and it’s been brilliant to watch the group grow.  The choir is made up of SSE staff of all different shapes and sizes and all levels of experience and we look forward to welcoming new members all the time.”

The Airs currently have close to 40 members, but the group have set themselves a target of 50 regulars by the end of the year.
