Five SSE employees who took part in a ‘Dragons’ Den style’ business competition have won two awards at a ceremony in Dundee.
The Dragons’ Glen competition is organised by charity CHILDREN 1ST and challenges business brains in Scotland to devise an idea that could potentially grow into a genuine operational enterprise.
The SSE team came away with awards for ‘Most Future Promise and ‘Overall Runners-up’ in the 2013 competition.
Colin Fraser, a graduate in SSE’s Procurement department said:
"The night was a great occasion, showcasing the innovation and entrepreneurial spirit in Scottish companies and their willingness to help out a just cause. As leader of the SSE team, I am really proud of the significant effort my colleagues put in over the last eight months and it was great to see that effort recognised.
“We were all surprised and delighted to be runners-up in the competition and thrilled to be given a special award for the most sustainable and tenacious business. The whole team would like to thank everyone in SSE who bought our product and supported the team."
Dragons’ Glen is a Scotland-wide entrepreneurial challenge, raising money to support Children 1st's efforts to help vulnerable children in Scotland where the goal is to turn £500 start-up funding into £5000+ within five months.
With the £500 start up fund from ‘dragon’ Brian Gilda of Peoples Ford the team successfully managed to raise £14,900 over the time of the challenge, selling around 9,000 innovative plastic water bottles including securing a sale to support the Commonwealth Games.
This year’s Dragons’ Glen initiative raised an incredible £60,000 for CHILDREN 1ST beating last years total of £42,000.
