Budding power workers of the future got the chance to see what’s involved in keeping the lights on as part of ‘Bring Your Child to Work Day’ yesterday.
Over 60 children, aged 10 to 14 years, got the day off school yesterday to join their parents at SSE in Perth to learn more about the world of work.
Activities included a tour of the company’s Generation and Power Distribution operations to hear about the workings of wind farms and hydro power stations as well as the thousands of miles of cables needed to deliver power to their homes.
They also got the chance to spend some time shadowing their parents and fellow work colleagues to explore the many different aspects of adults’ working lives.
Susan Duncan, Community Action Advisor at SSE who organised the day’s activities said:
“Giving employees the chance to bring their children to work for the day not only helps increase their understanding of what their parents’ do on a daily basis but it also helps widen their knowledge of the energy industry, perhaps even enabling them to identify new areas of interest for the future.
“We try to keep it as interactive and as engaging as possible with a mix of planning exercises, talks and tours from SSE professionals as well as one-to-one time with parents.
“SSE is delighted to work with Perth schools to support Bring Your Child to Work Day and help educate youngsters about energy and the opportunities available in the industry."
