Over the festive season kind hearted SSE employees donated and raised funds for charity, Cash for Kids, through their Mission Christmas appeal.

Employees donated over 900 toys to help disadvantaged children have a Christmas to remember and also raised around £8,750 through numerous fundraising activities. The company also matched this amount pound for pound through its charitable giving programme resulting in around £17,500 for the charity.

Gillian O’Reilly, Community Manager for SSE, said: “We are proud to support Cash for Kids who have promised to spend all money raised within the communities in which it was collected, making a real positive impact in the areas in which we live and work.”

Shannon (14) and Ayden (10) who live in Tayside are brother and sister and both have Horizontal Gaze Palsy with progressive scoliosis, a condition affects vision and also causes an abnormal curvature of the spine.  Some of the money raised through Mission Christmas helped provide them with a much needed improved accessibility bathroom.

Shannon and Ayden’s Mum, Kirsty, said:  “Thank you so much for giving my children the ability to uphold their privacy, dignity and independence. I am so grateful to Cash for Kids. As I have just graduated from university I could not afford to improve my children’s quality of life. They love their shower room. Thank you so much.”

Cash for Kids grants support children who are sick, disabled, have been abused or neglected, come from a deprived background or who simply need some extra care and guidance.
