10 employees from SSE Airtricity Gas, Northern Ireland’s leading gas supplier, got on their bikes to raise money for Sport Relief on Saturday 22nd March.
The cyclists pedalled 26 miles in a terrific effort to raise vital funds and change lives. SSE is a proud partner of Sport Relief, an event organised every two years by Comic Relief and BBC Sport, encouraging everyone to get active and raise money for people in need. Sport Relief 2014 has already raised a massive total of over £53 million.
Aidan McGinn, from SSE Airtricity Gas, said: “It’s fantastic to be involved in something as substantive and powerful as Sport Relief. SSE Airtricity has always been very active in helping charities and community groups, and this is something we were keen to contribute to. We’re really proud of the commitment from our staff, and completing the 26 miles is a great achievement.”
SSE staff have been involved in a number of other fundraising events for Sport Relief 2014. Employees from SSE Airtricity in Belfast got the chance to take on Olympic boxer Michael Conlon when he dropped into their offices on Friday 21st March. Staff members paid to square up to Michael and get a picture with his Olympic medal. They also paid for the chance to win a pair of the Olympian’s signed boxing gloves.
SSE is committed to helping charities and community organisations in the areas that it operates. Through its Community at Heart programme, the company gives all staff the opportunity to take a break from their usual work and spend a day helping a non-profit group of their choice. SSE Airtricity’s Northern Ireland offices have been particularly enthusiastic about donating their time, with 100% of staff using their Community at Heart day during the last financial year.
