One year on - Electricity Investment secures supplies for Arran and Kintyre
31 Mar 2014
Electricity supplies to homes on Arran and Kintyre are now further secured following extensive work since the devastating snow storms of one year ago.
Extraordinary snow and ice conditions brought down steel transmission towers in Crossaig which supplied power to both the Kintyre peninsula and under the water to Arran. It is one year ago since SSEPD engineers worked round the clock in freezing conditions to successfully restore electricity to all homes in Arran and Kintyre - one of the most complex engineering challenges in our history. At the time, around 20,000 homes were affected.
Here we look back at the event and talk to our Project Director Andy Malkin and Operations Manager Neil Wilson about the work which has been completed over the last twelve months, understand the importance of close links with the community and the £200m Kintyre-Hunterstonsubsea cable project.
