Four SSE employees based at the Perth Training Centre took to the Scottish ski slopes to raise cash for Sport Relief.

Jason Chapman, Richard Laird, Andy Johnston and Ann Robertson pledged to ski 10 miles each but ended the day completing an astounding 64 miles at the Cairngorm Ski Centre in Inverness-shire.

The employees took on the challenge as part of SSE's support for Sport Relief this year and the team raised £606 with donations still coming in beating their target of £500 for the cause.

Ann Robertson said: "Although I'm a confident snow boarder, the challenge was no easy feat. We started out at 8am and were on the slopes all day. We just kept in mind the people that will benefit from the money raised through Sport Relief which kept us going."

SSE is no stranger to helping charities and local organisations in the communities where its 20,000 employees live and work.

Since the launch of the company’s employee volunteering programme, Community at Heart in 2009, no less than 2,100 local projects have been helped across the UK.

Sport Relief encourages people to get active and raise money to help some of the poorest and most disadvantaged people in the UK and around the world.

The charity’s help at home includes giving shelter to people living on the streets and protection to those living with domestic abuse.

Support directed further afield includes helping children get into education, and providing communities with fresh water and life-saving vaccines.

The 2014 Sport Relief Weekend took place from 21 – 23 March.
