Commonwealth Games medallist Eilidh Child put SSE Chief Executive Alistair Phillips-Davies through his paces for Sport Relief today.

The Scottish hurdler joined Alistair, SSE Finance Director Gregor Alexander and staff as they took part in a Sport Relief mile around the energy company’s Perth headquarters.

SSE is an official partner of Sport Relief this year, helping raise millions for vulnerable and disadvantaged people in the UK and across the world.

Some of the UK’s top sportsmen and women joined staff across SSE sites to take part in Sport Relief challenges.

Olympic boxer Michael Conlan, cyclist Becky James, heptathlete Katarina Johnson Thompson and Paralympians Libby Clegg, Aled Davies and Jade Jones all helped staff fundraise and raise thousands for the charity.

Alistair said SSE was proud to play its part in raising money for good causes.

He said:  “Sport Relief brings the entire nation together to get active, have fun and raise funds.  SSE is partnering with Sport Relief to help make a difference and raise life-changing amounts of money for communities in the UK and across the world.

“As a large employer in the UK, we believe we can make a real impact and we value the time our staff give to their local communities and charities.

“Our staff are always keen to help and they’ve really rallied round the fundraising effort for Sport Relief.”

Former Perth Grammar PE teacher Eilidh said she was impressed with the competitive spirit of the SSE runners.

She said:  “There was definitely some friendly rivalry going on, perhaps I should have added in some hurdles to up the difficulty level.

“SSE has been a great supporter of me in the run up to the Glasgow 2014 games so it’s been fantastic come along and return that support for staff in their fundraising efforts.”

All money raised by Sport Relief goes to help extremely vulnerable and disadvantaged people in the UK and across the world, giving them a helping hand to turn their lives around.

SSE’s award-winning Portsmouth customer service centre is one of the official Sport Relief call-centres with staff volunteering to give up their Friday night to take donations from the public.

Staff have also been taking part in 24 hour rowing expeditions, skiing challenges and Sport Relief Bake Offs to raise money with the final total to be revealed on the BBC1 Sport Relief extravaganza tonight.
