Volunteers from SSE got their paint brushes out and their skates on to help revamp one of the world’s oldest skate parks.
Southsea Skate Park dates back to a roller rink first built in the 1950s but it was in dire need of a clean up and refresh to bring it back to life.
Run by a charity, the skate park relies on support from the local community to survive.
Nine volunteers from SSE’s IT department joined Community Fusion, a youth volunteering service run by young people, for young people and their commuinities.
They cleaned up the park and painted the ramps, ahead of graffiti artists joining the young people to add their own artwork.
Jenna Boyson, co-founder of Community Fusion, said: “The SSE volunteers were most helpful preparing the concrete snake run. Without their help the area would not have been ready in time so a huge thanks to all those who got involved.”
SSE staff members have given 4,600 volunteering days across more than 450 community projects in the UK in the last nine months. The Community at Heart days enable staff to help people in their communities in the UK and Ireland.
Rachel Getty, a support administrator for SSE, joined the Southsea team. She said: “It was really good fun, a fantastic day with a lot of community spirit. It was great being able to give something back and support young people in the area.”
